The 7 Chakras, and Our Physical Stages of Development

7 chakras

The seven chakras, running up from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, affect our physical reality. You have the ability to balance your chakras on your own; this can be accomplished through the use of meditation, yoga, crystals and gemstones, energy healing and sound.  Likewise, being in a high vibration environment and taking deep introspection with your emotions raises your vibration.

When the seven chakras are in balance, we feel mentally and emotionally at our best; likewise, our physical bodies are vital and vibrant. Practitioners who are familiar with the chakras can often feel them, they intuitively know when a specific chakra is out of balance.

Our seven chakras are within the body, and they work in tandem with the cyclical pattern of our physical lives and feelings; every seven years, we have one dominant chakra for each life cycle. For example, the first seven years of our lives relate to the root chakra, the next seven years relate to the sacral chakra, and so forth. Within each of the seven-year life cycles, we also ascend a seven chakra “ladder”, influencing us every year. Thus, the first year of every seven-year cycle begins with the root chakra, causing us to experience more fear and uncertainty; the last year of the seven-year cycle relates to the crown chakra, causing us to finish the cycle with a more advanced spiritual outlook.

How Our Physical Age Corresponds to the Chakras

1-year-old (root-root):

Primal instincts, thoughts, and actions are connected to the root chakra. Likewise, the root chakra is related to family, security, and being grounded. We enter our first year of life with the root chakra. This is the first time we’ve experienced this lifetime, and as an infant, we are just getting familiar with the physicality of life. Thus, it’s mostly about fear, and developing our grounding.

2 years old (root-sacral):

By the age of two, we are still in the root chakra cycle, but we are mature enough to start to developing our emotions, through the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra is concerned with our emotions, and we develop a strong attachment to those we love at this age. We also begin to develop our likes and dislikes.

3 years old (root-solar plexus):

At age three, within the root chakra cycle, we are relating to the solar plexus chakra. The solar plexus is the chakra relates to our sense of self; we start to actually observe the world, and understands who we are in  relationship to others, and the rest of the world.

4 years old (root-heart):

At age four, we’re in the root chakra cycle, but also, the heart chakra year. The heart chakra represents our love and connection to ourselves and others. An imbalance in the heart can cause a fear of love. However, when balanced, it causes our love and connections to shine. By four years old, we are still honing our grounding to the planet. We also learn to express our love towards other people, becoming more sociable as we begin to enter the pre-school years.

5 years old (root-throat):

By the age of five, we are in the root cycle, but also in the throat chakra year. The throat chakra governs self-expression and communication, as well as learning to listen. By age five, an individual usually is starting school and must begin to articulate their thoughts into words better.

6 years old (root-third eye):

At the age of six, we are in the root and the third eye chakra year. The third eye chakra is concerned with intuition, and critical thinking. By the age of six, we are beginning to think more for ourselves. Likewise, we are better at communicating our knowledge and thoughts to others.

7 years old (root-crown):

At age seven, we are in the final stage of the root chakra cycle, as being in the year of the crown chakra. The crown chakra connects our sense of spirituality to the rest of the world, tying our individual consciousness to that of the Universe. At this age, we begin to develop a greater curiosity about the world, especially the mysterious and the unknown.

As you can see, each seven-year cycle has a major chakra influencing the entire seven-year cycle. However, each individual year has a different corresponding chakra, flavoring the main chakra of the cycle. Let’s summarize each of the following seven-year cycles, in relation to the chakra stages of development.

Ages 8-14 (sacral chakra):

This cycle is all about creativity, sexual energy, and feeling and expressing our emotions freely. During this stage, we begin to experience our sexuality. Also, we often develop their first “crushes” and “puppy loves”. Young women will experience menstruation during this time, and both males and females will begin to develop a better understanding of their sexuality. It’s during this time many people will experience their first relationship, gaining a better understanding of the opposite sex.

Ages 15-21 (solar plexus chakra):

This life cycle is ruled by the solar plexus chakra, which represents our sense of Self, and our understanding of who we are. Many will experience teenage angst, becoming more self-centered and introspective, as they develop their individual sense of who they are. Individuals will begin to look objectively at who they are in relationship to others. Also, they will see how their individual personalities affect their relationships and perspective. People will usually develop their hopes and dreams during this cycle, gaining a better understanding of what they want out of life, and what their purpose in life is.

Ages 22-28 (heart chakra):

The heart chakra cycle is governed by a love for both ourselves and others. Many will meet their life partners during this cycle. It’s also the time that many people will look inwards, and develop a greater love for themselves; they are then able to infuse their relationships with deeper affection and find a greater appreciation for life in general. Many will also think more deeply about how they want to make their way in the world since they have developed a stronger appreciation for life.

Ages 29-35 (throat chakra):

The throat chakra cycle is a time to develop our communication skills, and our ability to express ourselves. It’s a cycle during which that many really find their voice, are comfortable with themselves, allowing freer and more open expression. Many will find their life’s purpose during this cycle and begin to refine it.

Ages 36-42 (third eye chakra):

During the third eye chakra cycle, wisdom, intuition, and processing information is the theme. Many will have epiphanies; they will better understand the knowledge they’ve gained from life, and how to use it effectively. Some will solidify into their belief systems if they have an imbalance in the third eye chakra.

Ages 43-49 (crown chakra):

The cycle related to the crown chakra relates to the collective consciousness, spiritual awakenings, and our spiritual connection to creation. During this cycle, many begin to fear death or the unknown, signifying they have a block in the crown chakra. This cycle can also pique interest in spirituality, and many develop a greater thirst for knowledge and spiritual understanding, which is often reflected as a “mid-life crisis.”
